Khusru, Kashmiri man, who has become a pawn of the terrorist at younger age. Rekha, dancer and doctor, run away with Khusru and arrives at project site. While the site work is going on in full fledge, the terrorists are planning to target the dam. What lays in store for these main characters and men working at project site? That only Fates can decide. Characters- They were the heart of the book here. This book mainly deals with two things — 1. The life story of characters and 2. Book is all about life story of main characters Nanda, Khusru, Rekha , supervisors at site, head of the site, and many other secondary characters who happens to work on the same project.

This books gives the feeling of reading a documentary that recorded life of each of these characters and other female character who were the part of their life. I was much impressed by the story of Nanda and Khusru — mainly Kalari traditions and activities and training of terrorists and their mindset. I loved this part the book a lot.

All the details about the life of characters and their family were precisely and deeply narrated.

Review Of Men and Dreams: In the Dhauladhar | Author Times

Many places and culture of India and also of Pakistan and Europe has been covered in this book. Hard life of laborers at project site, villagers and their beliefs with little story about them also was nice. Why 3 stars? Things that kept bothering me was, too many characters to remember. Some were not even directly related to the main theme of the book.

The plot with engineering details , though it was explained, it was hard to understand for me and have to re-read it. I lost interest whenever that part was coming in the book. So, those who can understand engineering technicalities would love to read this book. Another thing, I really liked the life story of Khusru, so I wanted that character clear through and through.

End of the book- From climax I was expecting many thrilling actions and dramatic end. But nothing was like that. It was too rash and sudden and unexpected. Who should read? Those who love many stories in one book will like it. It will definitely give you a unique feeling different from your usual reads. Great review..

Book Review : Men and Dreams in The Dhauladhar by Kochery C. Shibu

I understand?!! Whenever I finish reading a book I go blank how to write the review … What I do is start with general things like book details, featured image etc … While I do that slowly I start getting words.. I do not copy the blurb as such so I have to think of my version of the blurb too….

It takes me two days to finish a review.. Typical stereotype, which atleast from book not expected. Yes he is a muslim character. But he is not a bad character.

The circumstances that put him in that situation is well explained. And it is not like terrorists are muslims by default or so.

Kashmir is a place where as of my knowledge the muslim population is more and there the possibility of exploiting those people by external forces is much high!! Thats why the situation arises. Posted on 23rd February 12th March by Maya Bhat. My Review A well researched work by the Author. Now let me tell you some plus and minus of this book. Plus Reader gets some knowledge about the technical sides of a Dam work. The culture and beliefs of the village people are well portrayed. Each character is explained in detail. Cover looks beautiful.

Even though I read the kindle copy You get to see the people from extreme south and extreme north of the Country. You will enjoy the description of regional and climatic differences. Minus Some dragging could have avoided by cutting down excess explanations. I found no relevance of introducing certain characters in detail. Not taking names of characters since that could be a spoiler. They could have introduced in a few sentences as they had no role to play in the further story.

Number of characters could have been less. I understand it is about Men and their Dreams. But still. Chapter headings could have set in simple words rather than using regional sayings. My Rating I rate this book 3. Shibu is a retired naval officer.

Men and Dreams in the Dhauladhar – Book Review

Post his retirement he has executed hydroelectric projects in the Cauvery river basin in Karnataka, Beas river basin in Himachal and lately Teesta river basin in Sikkim. Men and Dreams in the Dhauladhar is his debut novel. The technical content of the novel, namely the setting up of a hydro-project is drawn from his experience in these projects since , as are many of the characters inspired from those whom he encountered at the project site.
